Full-Leather. Privately printed for James Cunningham in 1826, this four-volume set (4" wide x 6" tall) is in Fine condition. The mottled full-calf cover has a quarter-inch gilt decorative (heart-shaped designs) strip on back and front covers, replicated on inside covers. All edges gilt. Marbled end-pages and inside covers. Five raised bands on gilt-decorated spines. Morocco and black labels, with date 1826 in gilt at foot of spine. Elegant engravings throughout. Book binder (Bayntun Binder. Bath, England) noted in miniscule type on upper left of inside fep of each volume. Some minor and very conservative restorative work on spines. Only slight negative is a one-inch clean tear on tissue of frontispiece of Vol. I, which is hardly noticeable. A few scratches on the highly polished covers. Spectacularly handsome set. (Additional scans available on request.) Our Inventory Item #000782 Price: $650 |
